Welcome

It has been the honor of my life to serve as the Mayor of this awesome and amazing city. Iowa City has changed in many ways, but still has its passionate heart for democracy, progress and inclusion.  

In my time in office we have gone through some incredible challenges, and I worry there are more to come. We are in a difficult time as a nation, and our state government intends to keep changing the way our city government is funded and continues to threaten and attack the human rights of many, including our residents who are transgender, LGBTQ+, immigrants, unhoused, on Medicaid and the list goes on and on.   

We have a commitment to ensure the vitality of our community; to keep it safe and provide the services we all rely on. This makes for a challenge requiring experience, understanding and the ability to bring all sides together to find the path forward. I have demonstrated I can be that leader our city needs when times get difficult and I hope to earn your vote to serve another term on council. 

This city is my home. I love its people. We are a truly remarkable blending of cultures, ideas and dreams. I truly do believe what makes Iowa City so powerful is that we do all believe "We All Belong Here."   There is still much work to be done to make this feel like the reality for all. This is my passion and what drives me as a public servant. 

I have spent my days and nights listening to the voices of the community on all sides of complex issues. It is important that we continue to address these issues as we press on at making Iowa City a more affordable, accountable and accessible community for all.

There is much work to be done and we only succeed by continuing to work together. I have demonstrated my commitment to all constituents and have proven my dedication to pursue unification.
